Ecological Survey and Monitoring

Ecological Survey and Monitoring

Whether you're embarking on a large-scale development or seeking management advice as a landowner, our ecological survey and monitoring services can help. From comprehensive surveys, species and habitat monitoring, to GIS analysis, we offer a diverse range of support for projects across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Explore our services below.

Ecological survey and assessment

A first step in any project planning is usually a preliminary ecological appraisal, this provides an initial assessment of the site and informs further survey requirements. As part of the appraisal, we will conduct a desktop search and habitat survey. We are trained in the standard Phase I Habitat and UK Hab survey techniques. We have produced appraisals for habitat restoration projects, flood alleviation schemes and site infrastructure developments.

Species and habitat monitoring

We are able to offer a full range of species surveys including protected species, ranging from butterfly, bee, bat, badger, dormice, great-crested newt, reptiles, white-clawed crayfish to southern damselfly. Species surveys are vital to informing habitat management and understanding which species are present and need to be considered. We are able to design bespoke monitoring plans and are experienced in mitigation monitoring. Our ecologists hold protected species licences and are full members of CIEEM.

Conservation management plans and advice

We are able to draw on 60 years of collective knowledge of managing land for conservation over Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s 5000 hectare estate. We can produce bespoke habitat management plans for your site, including a site descriptions and landscape context, identification of important features, conservation objectives and prescriptions, and a monitoring plan. We can also assist with stakeholder engagement and public consultation. You can commission us to plan and help deliver your project, be it rewilding, pond restoration, woodland management or wildflower meadow creation.

GIS and data analysis

We are qualified GIS experts and can offer a range of mapping and data analysis services, including digitising, spatial analysis, spatial database design and presentation mapping. We can carry out comparative analyses for research and reporting, multi-criteria analysis for modelling, as well as presentation mapping for habitats and site features.
