Biodiversity Net Gain & Rewilding

We specialise in Biodiversity Net Gain assessment and design, carbon footprint evaluation, and rewilding survey, monitoring, and guidance.

Biodiversity Net Gain assessment and design

Biodiversity net gain (BNG) became mandatory for developments from 12 February 2024, The aim of BNG is to “leave our environment in a better state than we found it”. Our ecologists are fully trained in BNG survey, assessment and design using UK Habs and the Standard Defra Metric. We are also trained in River BNG assessment and the production of Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs). We have carried out BNG assessments and produced HMMPs for a range of habitats and sites for private landowners, river catchment restoration projects, and national infrastructure projects.

Carbon footprint evaluation

We are experienced in carbon storage and sequestration assessments for UK habitats and can combine this with our habitat survey and GIS analysis skills. We are also able to carry out full carbon footprint assessment for Scopes 1,2 and 3, following methods as recommended by the UK Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The assessment can inform offsetting needs and progress towards carbon reduction targets. We use the best available data on carbon sequestration from an in-depth literature review specifically for The Wildlife Trusts.

Rewilding survey, monitoring, and guidance

Rewilding is a key technique for restoring habitats, reconnecting the landscape and supporting wildlife. An essential part of rewilding is the implementation of a comprehensive ecological and environmental monitoring programme, which utilises robust and quantitative data collection techniques. We are able to design a monitoring programme for your rewilding project that informs management, demonstrates change and records success. We can also provide habitat management advice and grazing services as part of package of rewilding services.
